The mistakes I have made form an important part of my journey called life. From some of these I learnt, while from some I failed to learn. I was forgiven by my parents, friends and colleagues for my flaws. If I was not forgiven then, it would be difficult to cope up with life. So I strongly believe that the key to happiness is to forgive and move on! It’s a simple approach to lead a worthy, joyful and burden free life. How is that? The quicker you master the art of forgiving, the lighter you will feel. Carrying grudges, anger, hatred and other such malicious feelings, are in the true sense, loads that are heavier than hauling physical weight. Freeing yourself of mental burden, requires time and understanding. As you move ahead in life, how long are you willing to and will you be able to carry this load? Not many of us believe that forgiveness allows us to love people more in spite of their faults and also accept them the way they are. It’s not very easy to think beyond the emotion of being cheated and so I say forgiveness is an act of the strong because it requires some guts and strength to forgive. Understand that a person committed a mistake as a result of human failing. It is human to make mistakes, but forgiving is a sign of godliness. Each one of us is Blessed with the strength to pardon, for only if we all realize that. It is obvious that at this point of time, many of you may have ‘all this is easier said than done’ thoughts crossing your mind. I agree that forgiveness is indisputably a virtue difficult to practice, however every attempt made to do so, is worth it. These feelings of being ill-treated, not only hold you back forever, but often result in affecting your health adversely. They are a source for causing angst and despair. Some findings suggest that forgiveness can make you physically as well as emotionally strong. So let of those negative feelings. We are all not Blessed with the power to forgive easily, and I was no exception to this, but believe me, with time, I have learnt to forgive. I have come to realize that life is too short to hold on to grudges and bear their load forever. It is wiser to forgive, let go and move ahead. This has also made me a stronger as a person. When you have pardoned, it gives you the power interact with that person without undergoing any past pain.
If today, you can look into the eye of the person who has hurt you in the past and feel nothing, only then have you truly forgiven. And remember, neither does forgiving indicate that your weak, nor does it mean that can you can be fooled around with, because everyone does not have the power to forgive. Most importantly, forgiveness should not come by force, instead it should be your choice, thus allowing you to let go of past negative events.
